Ahead of the Kharif Marketing Season 2026–27, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant step in the interest of farmers by forwarding proposals to the Central Government regarding the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for 10 major Kharif crops.
In a high-level meeting chaired by the State Agriculture Minister, detailed deliberations were held on revising MSPs for crops including paddy. The proposed changes are expected to have a direct impact on farmers’ income and crop selection decisions.
A meeting of the Price Advisory Committee, chaired by Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, was held in Lucknow to review MSPs for the Kharif 2026–27 season. The proposed MSP rates have been sent to the Government of India with the objective of ensuring fair and remunerative prices for farmers’ produce.
The state government has urged the Centre to take a timely decision on MSPs so that farmers receive clear signals before the onset of Kharif sowing.
The meeting, held at the Vidhan Bhavan, was also attended by Cooperation Minister JPS Rathore and Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies Satish Sharma.
Officials stated that discussions focused on determining appropriate prices by considering input costs, prevailing market conditions, and past trends, keeping farmers’ interests at the forefront.
The crops discussed for MSP revision include paddy (common and Grade-A), jowar, maize, urad, arhar (tur), moong, groundnut, soybean, and sesame. The agriculture minister emphasized that ensuring fair returns for farmers’ hard work remains a top priority of the state government. According to the government, timely MSP announcements will strengthen farmers’ confidence and help them make informed crop choices during the Kharif season.
During the same review process, the agriculture minister also assessed the availability and supply of fertilisers in the state. Strict instructions were issued to ensure that farmers do not face any difficulties during the Rabi season.
The minister directed that FIRs be lodged against companies that have failed to supply fertilisers as per their assigned targets.
State Claims Adequate Fertiliser Stocks: As per official data, adequate stocks of urea, DAP, and NPK fertilisers are currently available in Uttar Pradesh. On average, 12 to 13 rakes of urea are reaching the state daily. Since October 2025, fertilisers have been distributed to over 10 million farmers through POS machines, ensuring transparency and preventing irregularities in distribution.
Sufficient Fertiliser Availability Across Divisions: The government has stated that fertiliser availability is satisfactory in both the cooperative and private sectors. Adequate stocks are reported in Bareilly, Moradabad, Varanasi, and Gorakhpur divisions. Officials have been instructed to ensure timely distribution in line with demand, enabling farmers to continue agricultural activities without concern.
