The state government has declared 2026 as the “Agriculture Welfare Year”, reaffirming its commitment to improving farmers’ prosperity and income. To ensure better returns for agricultural produce, several farmer-friendly measures have been announced.
For the Rabi Marketing Season 2026–27, the government has approved a bonus of ₹40 per quintal on wheat procurement at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). With this additional incentive, wheat-growing farmers will receive a total payment of ₹2,625 per quintal for their produce.
The Chief Minister stated that the government’s policy roadmap includes a target to procure wheat at ₹2,700 per quintal by 2028. The administration aims not only to achieve this goal but also to further strengthen price support for farmers in the coming years.
To encourage the cultivation of pulses, the government has also announced a bonus of ₹600 per quintal on the procurement of urad (black gram). The Chief Minister urged farmers to expand urad cultivation so they can take advantage of the incentive and improve crop diversification while preparing for the next cropping cycle.
The Chief Minister noted that farmers in some areas had been facing difficulties in completing the registration process for wheat procurement. In view of these concerns, the government has extended the last date for registration from March 7 to March 10, allowing more farmers to complete the process and participate in MSP procurement.
Addressing concerns related to power supply, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that electricity for irrigation is provided during daytime hours. This measure will help farmers avoid irrigating fields at night, reducing the risk of accidents and easing operational difficulties.
Key Farmer Issues Discussed in Meeting:
During the meeting, several important issues concerning farmers were discussed in detail. These included increasing compensation for land acquisition, providing relief for crop damage caused by wild animals, provisions under the mandi agricultural market law, crop survey procedures, undisputed land mutation, land division and demarcation timelines, and improvements in electricity supply and irrigation systems.
The Chief Minister said the state government would carefully consider the suggestions received from farmer organizations to ensure stronger protection of farmers’ interests and further improvements in agricultural policies.
