Onion prices across India’s wholesale markets witnessed sharp fluctuations today. In some regions, heavy arrivals pulled prices down to as low as ₹210 per quintal in Gautampura, Madhya Pradesh, while in areas with limited supply, rates soared to ₹3,200 per quintal in Bihar’s Barahat mandi and ₹3,000 in Rajasthan’s Dungarpur mandi.

This wide price gap has left both farmers and traders with a crucial decision – whether to sell immediately or hold stock for better returns in the coming weeks. Keeping track of the latest mandi prices is essential for making profitable selling decisions.

Market Analysis - 14 September 2025:

  • Highest Price → Rajasthan’s Dungarpur mandi at ₹3,000 per quintal.
  • Lowest Price → Gautampura mandi in Madhya Pradesh at just ₹210 per quintal.
  • Heavy Arrivals → Indore (1,419 tonnes) and Pimpalgaon (990 tonnes) saw the largest supply, which kept prices under pressure.
  • Low Supply, High Prices → Bihar (Barahat ₹3,200), Rajasthan (Dungarpur ₹3,000), and Haryana (Gohana & Hansi ₹2,500) fetched strong prices.
  • Steep Declines → Madhya Pradesh mandis like Gautampura and Kalapipal recorded prices well below ₹1,000 due to oversupply.

Advisory for Farmers:

  1. Avoid selling in high-supply markets like Indore, Nashik, and Pimpalgaon for now – prices may fall further.
  2. Bihar and Rajasthan markets are offering good prices; farmers here should consider selling immediately.
  3. Those with storage capacity can hold stock for better rates, as festive season demand is expected to rise.
  4. Small farmers are advised to sell in nearby local mandis to save transport costs and maximize profit.
