The Central Government will release the 21st instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on 19 November 2025. With this release, the total Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) under the scheme will cross ₹3.70 lakh crore, benefitting more than 11 crore farmer families across the country.
Launched on 24 February 2019, PM-KISAN is among the world’s largest DBT programmes. Under this scheme, every eligible farmer family receives ₹6,000 per year in three instalments. This assistance is provided only to farmers whose land records are updated on the PM-KISAN portal, whose bank accounts are linked with Aadhaar, and whose e-KYC is completed. Notably, over 25% of the beneficiaries are women, reflecting the government’s commitment to inclusive development.
To ensure smooth operations and eliminate middlemen, PM-KISAN has been integrated with a strong farmer-centric digital ecosystem. Aadhaar-based verification, secure payment systems, and digital public services have significantly expanded the scheme’s reach to remote and rural areas.
Aadhaar-based e-KYC plays a crucial role in verifying beneficiaries. Farmers can now complete e-KYC through multiple options:
The government has also launched the PM-KISAN Mobile App, allowing farmers to complete their own or fellow farmers’ e-KYC through facial authentication from home.
The official portal pmkisan.gov.in offers several user-friendly features under the Farmers Corner, such as:
To maintain transparency, a Grievance Redressal System is available on both the PM-KISAN portal and CPGRAMS for timely resolution of issues.
To provide real-time assistance, the government has introduced Kisan-eMitra, an advanced AI chatbot powered by Large Language Models (LLMs). It overcomes language and technology barriers and supports 11 major languages, including Hindi, English, Tamil, Bengali, Odia, Gujarati, Punjabi, Telugu, Marathi, Kannada and Malayalam.
Key Features of Kisan-eMitra:
The Government of India continues to conduct special village-level saturation campaigns to ensure every eligible land-owning farmer is included under PM-KISAN.
A 2019 study by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) found that PM-KISAN funds:
