Onion prices created a storm in mandis today, swinging between ₹500 and ₹3,150 per quintal across different states. While prices collapsed to as low as ₹500 per quintal in some markets, Rajasthan’s Madan Ganj Kishangarh mandi set a new record at ₹3,150 per quintal.

Arrivals (supply inflow) also varied drastically some mandis saw only a few quintals, while others recorded hundreds of tonnes being offloaded. This sharp contrast in supply and demand left both farmers and traders on high alert.

If you are planning to sell or purchase onions, today’s mandi update is crucial for decision-making.

Highlights of Price & Arrival Trends:

  • Highest Price: Rajasthan’s Madan Ganj Kishangarh at ₹3,150 per quintal.
  • Lowest Price: Madhya Pradesh’s Sendhwa and Rajasthan’s Jodhpur, where prices plunged to ₹500 per quintal.
  • Largest Arrivals: Maharashtra’s Sangli (273.3 tonnes) and Punjab’s Ludhiana (108 tonnes), keeping prices under pressure.
  • Lowest Arrivals: Tiny inflows in Rayya (0.04 tonnes) and Sahnewal (0.2 tonnes) pushed rates higher (₹2,000+).

This shows a clear trend — mandis with heavy arrivals are facing price pressure, while low-supply mandis are witnessing sharp price jumps.

Farmer Advisory (20 August 2025):

  1. Farmers with storage facilities should hold stock for 2–3 weeks as prices may rise further.
  2. In high arrival zones (Sangli, Ludhiana), it is better to sell quickly to avoid further decline.
  3. Sending onions to high-price markets in Rajasthan and Punjab can fetch maximum profits.
  4. Focus on grading and quality — only 1st Sort onions are fetching ₹3,000+ per quintal.
