The Government of India’s flagship initiative, the National Agriculture Market (e-NAM), is steadily transforming the agricultural marketing landscape by enabling farmers and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to participate in digital trade across the country. As of 30 June 2025, a total of 1,522 mandis (agricultural markets) have been integrated into the e-NAM platform, providing farmers with nationwide access to transparent, technology-enabled marketplaces.

e-NAM in Numbers (Till June 2025):

  1. Over 17.9 million farmers registered
  2. More than 267,000 traders on board
  3. 4,518 FPOs actively participating
  4. Total trade worth over ₹4,39,941 crore completed via the platform

Why e-NAM is a Game-Changer for Farmers:

The e-NAM platform eliminates intermediaries and connects farmers directly with buyers, helping them receive better value for their produce. Key benefits include:

  • Nationwide market access from a single digital portal
  • Real-time price discovery
  • Secure and prompt e-payment options
  • Transparent pricing based on quality
  • Reduced manual intervention and increased efficiency

Government’s Strategic Efforts to Digitize Agri-Marketing:

To further boost farmer incomes and promote digital marketing, the Government has implemented several major initiatives:

Formation of 10,000 FPOs: This initiative empowers small and marginal farmers to collectively market their produce and negotiate directly with buyers for better prices.

Cluster-Based Business Organizations (CBBOs): These act as facilitators, linking FPOs with processors, industries, and institutional buyers to expand their market reach.

Buyer-Seller Meets: Regular state and national-level meetings are organized to facilitate direct business interactions between FPOs and large-scale buyers.

Integration with Digital Marketplaces: FPOs are being actively encouraged to list their products on e-NAM, Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), and Government e-Marketplace (GeM) to enhance visibility and sales.

Direct Industry-FPO Partnerships on the Rise: Over 9,000 FPOs are now connected to ONDC, and 216 FPOs are registered on GeM. These FPOs have backward linkages with input suppliers like Bayer, Syngenta, Godrej Agrovet, National Seeds Corporation, and Hindustan Insecticides Ltd.

On the front end, they are establishing direct marketing channels with major brands like ITC, Reliance, Big Basket, Patanjali, Mother Dairy, and the National Consumers Cooperative Federation (NCCF). Under the guidance of SFAC (Small Farmers’ Agribusiness Consortium), 171 corporate entities have signed agreements with 430 FPOs for the procurement of raw materials and agri-products.
