State is taking major strides to strengthen agriculture and allied sectors under the “Farmer Welfare Year 2026.” According to Agriculture Secretary Nishant Varwade, the initiative launched on January 11, 2026 aims to build a self-reliant farming community, promote advanced agricultural practices, and develop a value chain-driven rural economy.

Madhya Pradesh Leads in AgriStack:

Madhya Pradesh has emerged as the top-performing state in implementing the AgriStack initiative. The system enables seamless access to farmers’ data, integrating farmer registry, land records, and crop registration (girdawari) into a single digital platform. Fertilizer distribution has also been streamlined through the e-Vikas platform, ensuring transparency and ease for farmers.

₹600 Bonus for Urad, Push for Farm Mechanisation:

To promote summer urad cultivation, the government has announced a bonus of ₹600 per quintal. Alongside this, farm mechanisation schemes are being implemented to support wheat harvesting and crop residue management. Gaushalas are being equipped with machines for fodder processing, while selected “Vrindavan Villages” are being developed as model agricultural hubs, with top-performing villages set to be recognised.

₹20,000 Crore Investment, Export Target set at ₹30,000 Crore:

Madhya Pradesh is emerging as a hub for agro-based industries. The state ranks first in spices and pulses production, second in food grains, and third in milk, fruits, vegetables, and flowers. More than 4,000 food processing units are currently operational, and in the last two years, 47 companies have proposed investments exceeding ₹20,000 crore.

The state’s agri-exports currently stand at ₹18,000 crore, with a target to reach ₹30,000 crore by 2028. Initiatives such as 36 ODOP (One District One Product) and 27 GI-tagged products are helping local produce gain global recognition.

Boost to Cotton, Textiles and Startups:

The state contributes nearly 47% of India’s non-GMO organic cotton production. India’s first PM MITRA Textile Park is being developed in Dhar over 2,158 acres, expected to benefit around 5 lakh farmers and generate employment for nearly 3 lakh people. The startup ecosystem is also expanding, with over 7,000 startups in the state, including around 600 agri-based ventures.

₹25,000 Crore Interest-Free Loans and Free Power Support:

The Integrated Fisheries Policy 2026, cage culture schemes have been introduced to boost fish production. A provision of ₹100 crore has been made for the Chief Minister Fishermen Prosperity Scheme. The Cooperation Department has set a target of ₹25,000 crore in zero-interest crop loans, while the Energy Department is providing free electricity to small farmers along with relief on pending surcharges.

Expansion of Horticulture and Makhana Farming:

The Horticulture Department aims to double its current coverage of 10%, promoting the cultivation of fruits, vegetables, spices, flowers, and medicinal crops. Makhana farming, currently limited to four districts, is also being expanded to new regions.
