In a major push towards modernizing agricultural marketing, the Government of India has been implementing the National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) since 2016. The platform serves as a unified online trading system that integrates wholesale mandis across states and Union Territories, enabling farmers to access wider and more competitive markets.
So far, a total of 1,656 mandis from 23 states and 4 Union Territories have been integrated with the e-NAM platform. This nationwide network has significantly enhanced market access for farmers, allowing them to connect with a broader pool of buyers beyond their local markets. As of February 28, 2026, more than 180 million farmers and 272,000 traders have registered on the platform. Additionally, 4,724 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) have been on boarded, strengthening collective marketing and improving farmers’ bargaining power.
Trade Crosses ₹4.82 Lakh Crore:
Since its inception, e-NAM has facilitated the trading of approximately 132.2 million metric tonnes of agricultural produce, with a total trade value exceeding ₹4,82,350 crore. These figures reflect the rapid growth of digital agricultural trade and the increasing adoption of the platform across the country.
Better Price Discovery and Transparency:
The e-NAM platform allows farmers to sell their produce through transparent online bidding, giving them access to multiple buyers and ensuring competitive price discovery. The system also enables direct transfer of sale proceeds into farmers’ bank accounts, reducing intermediaries and enhancing transparency and trust in the marketing process.
AI-Based Quality Testing in Rajasthan:
In Rajasthan, 134 e-NAM mandis are currently using AI and machine learning-based systems for quality assessment of agricultural commodities. These technologies have significantly reduced testing time while improving accuracy, helping farmers receive fair value for their produce. The initiative is supported by the Government of India under the e-NAM scheme.
Government Support for Market Infrastructure:
Under the e-NAM scheme, the government provides grant assistance of up to ₹75 lakh per mandi to states for strengthening market infrastructure. This includes facilities such as quality testing laboratories, electronic weighing systems, computers, printers, cleaning, grading, packaging units, software infrastructure, and compost units.
