Cyclone Ditvaah Live: Red alert for heavy rain in Tamil Nadu-Andhra, know where the storm is now!

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert stating that Cyclone ‘Ditwah’, currently active over coastal Sri Lanka and the southwest Bay of Bengal, is likely to bring widespread heavy rainfall across several southern states between December 1 and 2.

Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Southern States:

December 1: Heavy rain is likely over north Tamil Nadu and Odisha. December 1–2: Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema may witness heavy to very heavy showers. Telangana is expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall on December 1. In addition, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected over Tamil Nadu, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema between December 1 and 3. South Interior Karnataka may experience stormy rains on December 1, while Kerala and Mahe could see intense showers with lightning on December 2 and 3. 

Severe Cold Conditions Grip North India:

A sharp drop in temperatures has been recorded across North India during the past 24 hours.

  1. Several areas of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Himachal Pradesh reported minimum temperatures below 6°C.
  2. Parts of Uttarakhand and Punjab also experienced biting cold.
  3. Amritsar recorded 6.4°C, the lowest minimum temperature in the plains of India.

Minimum temperatures remained 1.6°C to 3°C below normal in many areas of Karnataka, Telangana, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh weather, Tamil Nadu, and Jharkhand.

Temperature Forecast for the Coming Days:

  1. Northwest India may experience a further 2–4°C drop in the next three days.
  2. East and Northeast India will see no major change for the next three days, after which temperatures may fall by 2–3°C.
  3.  Maharashtra may remain stable for the next 24 hours, but night temperatures could rise by 2–3°C over the following four days.
  4. Gujarat is likely to see a 2–3°C decline after the next 24 hours.
  5. Central India is not expected to witness any significant temperature changes during the week.

Fog and Cold Wave Warnings:

  1. Dense fog is likely over parts of Himachal Pradesh during the early morning hours on December 1 and 2.
  2. Punjab may experience cold wave conditions during the same period.

Fishermen Alert: High Waves and Dangerous Sea Conditions:

  1. Fishing has been completely suspended along the coasts of Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and South Andhra Pradesh till December 1.
  2. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the southwest Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar, Comorin area, and the Tamil Nadu–Puducherry–Sri Lanka coasts.
  3. Fishing is also prohibited along the Andhra Pradesh coast and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal till December 2.
