Cyclonic storm Ditwa is moving swiftly towards the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh. Under its impact, extremely heavy rainfall, strong winds, and rough sea conditions are likely on 30 November. The Meteorological Department has warned of dense fog in several states and a further drop in temperatures across North India.
On Saturday, Cyclone Ditwa reached close to the Tamil Nadu–Puducherry coastline, prompting the IMD to declare a Red Alert for these regions. The most severe impact is expected in Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, and Puducherry–Karaikal, where extremely heavy rainfall and strong winds are likely.
Unusual turbulence has been reported in the sea due to the cyclone. Large quantities of seaweed and marine vegetation have washed ashore in many places. Authorities have urged residents to stay away from beaches and avoid unnecessary movement near coastal areas. The Tamil Nadu government has set up 6,000 relief camps across the state. Although very few people have arrived so far, officials warn that conditions may deteriorate suddenly.
State Revenue and Disaster Management Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran stated that paddy crops in the Cauvery delta have suffered significant damage due to continuous heavy rainfall. A detailed assessment will be carried out once the water recedes in the next two days, after which affected farmers will be compensated.
Weather conditions remained largely stable in Delhi–NCR over the past 24 hours, but the minimum temperature was recorded 3–5°C below normal. Light mist was observed in Safdarjung, reducing visibility to 1200 metres. According to the IMD, shallow to moderate fog is likely to persist in the mornings over the next 2–3 days. Due to northwesterly winds, night temperatures are expected to fall further.
Severe Cold Wave Intensifies in North India:
A western disturbance combined with icy northerly winds has triggered a cold wave across several parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and western Madhya Pradesh. Dense fog was reported in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Manipur, and western Madhya Pradesh. In many areas of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh, minimum temperatures have dropped below 6°C, indicating a sharp rise in cold wave conditions.
