Uttar Pradesh has issued an important update for nearly 4.5 million sugarcane farmers ahead of the 2025–26 crushing season. The state government has clarified that, just like last year, sugarcane supply slips will be sent exclusively via SMS. Therefore, it is crucial that the mobile numbers registered on the Smart Ganna Kisan (SGK) Portal are correct and active.
According to the Cane and Sugar Commissioner, the digital slip system has made the entire process more transparent, timely, and hassle-free. Farmers will receive their supply slips directly on their mobile phones, which will help ensure timely delivery of fresh cane to mills and reduce the chances of crop spoilage.
The Sugarcane Department has appealed to farmers to verify their registered mobile numbers on the SGK Portal. If a number is incorrect, switched off, or inactive, farmers must update it immediately with the help of their cane supervisor. An incorrect or inactive number will prevent the farmer from receiving SMS slips, leading to delays in cane delivery.
The Cane Development Department has stated that over 95% of SMS slips are currently being delivered successfully. To further improve the process, farmers must ensure the following:
These precautions will help farmers receive their SMS slips in real time and avoid any disruption in cane supply.
The department stated that since the introduction of the digital slip system, farmers no longer need to visit offices to collect their slips. As soon as the slip is issued, an SMS is delivered instantly, allowing farmers to supply cane to the mills within the scheduled time. This has increased transparency in both supply and payment processes.
The Cane and Sugar Commissioner has directed all district cane officers and assistant commissioners to spread full awareness about the SMS slip system. Through village-level meetings and various communication channels, farmers must be informed that if they are not receiving SMS slips, they should promptly contact the concerned official to update their mobile number.
Yogi Government Hikes Sugarcane Support Price:
In another major relief for farmers, the Uttar Pradesh government has increased the State-Advised Price (SAP) for sugarcane for the 2025–26 season. Early variety: Increased from ₹370 to ₹400 per quintal, General variety: Increased from ₹360 to ₹390 per quintal. This is being hailed as a historic decision that will boost farm incomes and support timely cane supply to mills.
Double Benefit for Farmers: While the SMS slip system enhances transparency and efficiency, the increased SAP strengthens farmers financially. Experts believe this dual move will improve both sugarcane production and supply. However, it remains essential for farmers to keep their mobile numbers updated on the SGK Portal and maintain active, recharged phones to receive SMS slips on time. The government’s initiative is being seen as a significant step towards delivering greater convenience and benefits to farmers through digital technology.
