Potato markets across the country witnessed sharp fluctuations on 12 September 2025. In some regions, heavy arrivals dragged prices down to just ₹800–₹1,000 per quintal, while in others, lower arrivals and stronger demand pushed rates up to ₹2,500 per quintal.

For farmers and traders in Delhi, Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh, the day brought mixed fortunes. Some mandis recorded exceptionally high prices, while in several others, rates dropped so low that farmers were left disappointed.

  • Highest Price: Hansi (Haryana) recorded a peak of ₹3,500 per quintal.
  • Lowest Price: Gondal (Gujarat) saw potatoes selling at just ₹220 per quintal.
  • Heavy Arrivals: Delhi (Keshopur, 143 tonnes), Gujarat (Bhuj, 72 tonnes; Mehsana, 56 tonnes), and Haryana (Gurgaon, 185 tonnes).
  • Low Arrivals, High Rates: Hansi (29 tonnes at ₹3,500), Bhuj (72 tonnes at ₹2,300), Ara (4 tonnes at ₹2,300).
  • Falling Markets: Gondal (₹220–320), Morena (₹600), and Bhind (₹650) remained the weakest.

Farmer Advisory:

  1. In heavy arrival markets (Delhi, Gurgaon, Bhuj), prices are under pressure — storing stock could be a better option.
  2. In low arrival, high-price markets (Hansi, Ara, Bhuj), immediate selling may bring higher profits.
  3. Farmers with premium varieties like Jyoti and Red Nanital can expect better margins.
  4. With demand likely to rise in the coming weeks, adopt a partial sale and partial storage strategy to maximize earnings.
