August 17, 2025: Fresh Onion Market Prices – Full Report on Rates & Arrivals

Attention farmers and traders! Today, onion markets across India witnessed sharp fluctuations. In some mandis, rates tumbled below ₹1,000 per quintal, while in Barabanki (Uttar Pradesh), prices soared to ₹3,800 per quintal the highest in the country.

This mixed trend shows that while certain regions faced price drops, some mandis, especially in Uttar Pradesh, saw strong demand despite heavy arrivals. Farmers in Barabanki and Bijnor are particularly hopeful that prices could rise further in the coming weeks.

For anyone planning to sell or buy onions, today’s mandi bhav (market rates) are crucial. The right decision at the right time can help farmers secure better profits.

Where Prices Rose & Where They Crashed

High-Price Mandis:

  1. Barabanki (UP) recorded the highest price at ₹3,800/quintal.
  2. Patti (Punjab) also touched ₹2,600/quintal.

Low-Price Mandis:

  • Gurugram (Haryana) and Wai (Maharashtra) saw prices fall to ₹1,000/quintal.
  • Hasanpur (UP) also recorded a low of ₹1,000/quintal.

Arrivals:

  • Barabanki (375 tonnes) and Bijnor (150 tonnes) saw the highest arrivals.
  • Many mandis like Awagarh, Kairana, and Gulawati recorded arrivals of less than 1 tonne.

Farmer Advisory:

  1. In high-arrival regions, avoid panic selling—wait for stable prices.
  2. Farmers with storage facilities can hold stock, as festive demand (Raksha Bandhan & Ganeshotsav) may push prices higher in the coming weeks.
  3. In quality-driven markets (like Barabanki & Patti), separating premium-quality onions can fetch higher profits.
