Weather alerts: Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Several Parts of India, IMD Issues Yellow Alert

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), many parts of East, Central, West, and South India are likely to experience light to moderate rain, with isolated spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning over the next seven days. A yellow alert has been issued for several regions.

Heavy Rainfall and Lightning Warning in Central India:

States like Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh are expected to receive heavy rainfall between July 2nd and 7th. Similarly, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, and Odisha may witness heavy showers from July 2nd to 5th. Very heavy rainfall is particularly forecast for Madhya Pradesh on July 2nd and again between July 5th and 7th, while Odisha may see intense rainfall on July 2nd and 3rd. Thunderstorms and lightning, along with moderate rainfall, are likely across the region throughout the week.

North India Braces for Intense Rainfall:

  1. Heavy rainfall is expected in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and East Rajasthan from July 2nd to 7th.
  2. Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive rain from July 2nd to 5th and again from July 5th to 7th.
  3. West Rajasthan may witness rain from July 2nd to 4th.
  4. Very heavy rainfall is forecast for Himachal Pradesh (July 2nd and July 5–7), Uttarakhand (July 2nd), Punjab (July 6–7), Haryana (July 6–7), and East Rajasthan (July 2–4).
  5. Thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds with speeds reaching 30–40 km/h are also likely across the region.

Active Monsoon Over Western India:

The Konkan & Goa region, Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, the Gujarat region, and Saurashtra-Kutch are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over the next seven days as monsoon activity intensifies.

Northeast India to Continue Receiving Rainfall: The northeastern states will likely experience continued light to moderate rainfall throughout the coming week, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Some areas may also see isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Rain and Wind Alert for Southern India:

  • Telangana may witness heavy rainfall on July 2nd.
  • Kerala and Mahe are expected to receive heavy showers from July 2nd to 5th.
  • Coastal and North Interior Karnataka may experience rainfall from July 2nd to 7th, while South Interior Karnataka is likely to receive rain from July 3rd to 7th.
  • In addition, strong surface winds with speeds reaching 40–50 km/h are expected across various parts of South India during the forecast period.
