Bihar state government has announced a major relief and incentive package for farmers. Now, farmers can avail attractive subsidies on the purchase of agricultural equipment from simple tools like khurpi (hand hoe) to tractors. The Agriculture Department has announced subsidies on a total of 91 different types of farm machinery this year.
Farmers can apply for the subsidy till October 31. To ensure transparency, the department has introduced a new system.
Under this process, farmers must first purchase the agricultural equipment by paying the full amount to the authorized dealer. After verification, the subsidy amount will be transferred directly to their bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer). This initiative aims to make the payment process transparent and prevent any kind of fraud.
The subsidy program for agricultural machinery was first introduced in the financial year 2015–16 and will continue through 2025–26.
The department has clarified that the pending applications from 2024–25, which could not be approved earlier, will also be considered in this year’s lottery process.
Dealers are required to upload the sales bill online, mentioning the equipment’s make, model, and engine number. After the manufacturer’s online confirmation within three days, the agriculture coordinator will conduct physical verification, following which the subsidy will be released to the farmer.
To avail benefits under any government agriculture scheme, farmers must register on the Agriculture Department’s DBT portal. After registration, they can purchase equipment using their unique ID number.
Small and marginal farmers are eligible for up to 80% subsidy (maximum ₹800) on small agricultural tools such as khurpi, spade, sickle, maize sheller, and weeder kits.
