Union Agriculture Minister to Meet Farmers in Telangana: VKSA Initiative Gains Momentum

Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, visited various villages in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district on June 9, 2025, as part of the ongoing Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA). During this visit, the minister interacted directly with farmers and provided valuable guidance on the campaign’s vision and impact.

ICAR’s Initiative to Bridge Research and Farming Ahead of Kharif Season:

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is conducting the VKSA campaign across the country from May 29 to June 12, 2025. This pre-kharif initiative aims to bridge the gap between agricultural research and grassroots farming practices, contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The campaign is being carried out in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), ICAR institutions, state agricultural universities, and line departments including agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, and fisheries.

Minister’s Interaction with Farmers:

During his visit, Shri Chouhan participated in farmer interactions (Kisan Chaupal) at the villages of Mansanpally and Ramachandraguda in Ranga Reddy district. Later, he addressed a larger gathering of farmers at Kallem Janga Reddy Garden in Mangalpally, Ibrahimpatnam.

Over 1500 Farmers and Women Trained:

The event witnessed the participation of more than 1500 farmers and women involved in agriculture. Key topics discussed included sustainable farming practices, fishery development, and emerging agri-technologies. The program featured the presence of several senior scientists including Dr. M.L. Jat (Secretary, DARE & Director General, ICAR), Dr. A.K. Nayak (DDG, NRM), Dr. D.K. Yadav (DDG, Crop Science), and Dr. A. Velmurugan (SWCE).

Exhibition and Visit to Millets Research Institute: A dedicated exhibition showcased advanced agricultural technologies and innovations developed by Telangana-based KVKs and ICAR institutions in Hyderabad. Ahead of the main event, the Agriculture Minister also visited the ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research (ICAR-IIMR) located in Rajendranagar.

Participation of Hyderabad-based ICAR Institutes: Scientists and directors from various Hyderabad-based ICAR institutions also took part in the event. These included ICAR-ATARI, ICAR-IIMR, ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Management, ICAR-Directorate of Oilseeds Research, ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, ICAR-National Meat Research Institute, and ICAR-NBPGR.
