In a significant move for farmers, the Madhya Pradesh government has announced the procurement of summer Moong and Urad dal at Minimum Support Price (MSP). Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state government is committed to increasing farmers’ income and making agriculture more profitable. A formal proposal has been sent to the central government to begin MSP procurement.

Farmer Registration from June 19:

The registration process for farmers to sell Moong and Urad at MSP will begin on June 19. Farmers will need to submit essential documents such as crop details, Aadhaar card, bank account information, and land ownership records. Sharecroppers must provide a self-attested copy of their lease agreement. Only accounts in nationalized or district cooperative banks will be accepted.

MSP Rates and Production Estimates:

As per the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices, the MSP for Moong is ₹8682 per quintal, and for Urad, it is ₹7400 per quintal. The state expects around 14.35 lakh hectares of Moong cultivation yielding 20.23 lakh metric tons, and 0.95 lakh hectares of Urad cultivation producing 1.24 lakh metric tons.

Procurement Centers in Select Districts:

Harvesting of Moong and Urad takes place between the third week of May and the first week of June in 36 and 13 districts respectively. Procurement centers will be established in these districts by authorized government agencies.

Transparent Procurement and Farmer Support: Procurement will follow strict quality standards. Farmers will receive computerized receipts mentioning their name, account number, and payment amount. Payments will be directly transferred to their accounts. In case of transport delays, district-level committees will ensure alternative arrangements and penalties for non-compliance.

Facilities and Technical Assistance: Procurement centers will be equipped with shade, drinking water, toilets, first-aid, and tools for crop quality testing. Additional staff and digital facilities will be deployed at high-demand centers. The government will also organize agri-fairs to promote advanced seeds, farm machinery, and technology.

Conclusion: This initiative ensures fair prices for farmers, reduces middlemen exploitation, and strengthens transparency in procurement. It is a step toward self-reliant farmers and a robust rural economy.
