The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has approved the SPREE 2025 (Scheme to Promote Registration of Employers/Employees), aimed at encouraging establishments and workers to register under the ESI Act. This nationwide initiative will be in effect from July 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025.
According to the Joint Director, the primary objective of the SPREE 2025 scheme is to bring unregistered establishments and workers under the ambit of the Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948, thereby extending the reach of social security. The scheme especially aims to benefit contractual, temporary, and unorganised workers, enabling them to access essential insurance, health, and social protection services.
Registration Process:
Tthe scheme, employers can register their establishments and employees through digital platforms such as the ESIC Portal, Shram Suvidha Portal, or MCA Portal. The registration will be considered valid from the date declared by the employer. Notably, no contributions, liabilities, records, inspections, or legal actions will be demanded for any period prior to the declared registration date. This provision is designed to eliminate the fear of retrospective dues and encourage voluntary compliance.
Key Benefits under SPREE 2025:
Applicability of the Scheme:
The scheme applies to all establishments employing 10 or more workers, including factories, shops, hotels, restaurants, road transport services, private schools and colleges, hospitals, newspaper agencies, and contract employees engaged by municipal corporations. It also extends to institutions not yet registered under the ESI Act or those that have not enrolled all eligible employees.
Public Appeal: The Joint Director has urged all eligible employers to make the most of this voluntary, simple, and transparent scheme. Participation not only ensures legal compliance but also provides employees with vital health protection and social security coverage, strengthening workforce welfare and promoting ease of doing business.
