Madhya Pradesh government has taken a significant step to make farmers active partners in the state’s development process. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced that under a recent cabinet decision, farmers will receive compensation above market rates for agricultural land acquisition strengthening their financial position while accelerating development projects.
The state government has revised the Madhya Pradesh Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Rules, 2015. The multiplication factor for rural areas has been increased from 1.0 to 2.0. With this change, farmers can now receive up to four times the market value as compensation. This landmark decision is being seen as a major step toward safeguarding farmers’ interests.
The enhanced compensation is expected to speed up key infrastructure projects such as irrigation schemes, roads, bridges, railways, and dams. Higher payouts will encourage farmer participation and consent, making land acquisition smoother and more efficient. As a result, both rural and urban development activities are likely to gain momentum.
The Chief Minister noted that Madhya Pradesh is steadily progressing toward becoming a hub of metropolitan development, which requires large-scale land acquisition. Over the past three years, more than 55,000 farmers have received compensation totaling around ₹16,000 crore under various projects. The annual compensation outlay is now set to rise to nearly ₹20,000 crore, up from about ₹5,000 crore earlier.
Reaffirming support for farmers, the Chief Minister stated that 2026 is being observed as a ‘Farmer Welfare Year’. Despite global challenges affecting wheat exports, the state government continues to stand firmly with farmers. Procurement is being carried out with priority given to small and marginal farmers, along with bonus payments. With higher production this year, the state has requested approval from the Centre for procurement of 7.8 million metric tonnes of wheat.
Focus on Women Empowerment and Welfare Schemes:
The government is also advancing its commitment to women empowerment. The financial assistance under the Ladli Behna scheme has been increased, and officials clarified that no welfare scheme has been discontinued. The state has presented a budget of ₹4.21 lakh crore for the financial year 2026–27, aimed at inclusive growth and development.
A Major Step towards Farmer Prosperity: This policy shift is expected to not only strengthen farmers financially but also integrate them more closely into the development framework. With better compensation, transparent processes, and sustained welfare efforts, Madhya Pradesh is set to witness balanced growth in both agriculture and infrastructure sectors.
