Madhya Pradesh government has taken several important steps this season to improve wheat procurement, bringing direct benefits to farmers. Along with extending the slot booking deadline, the state has introduced key reforms to make the procurement process faster, more transparent, and more convenient. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has made it clear that he will personally monitor the system and may conduct surprise inspections at any time.
The Chief Minister has indicated that he can visit any procurement centre across the state without prior notice. During these visits, he will directly interact with farmers and assess the ground-level situation. The government’s objective is to ensure that farmers do not face any inconvenience and that the procurement process remains fair and efficient.
Providing major relief to farmers, the state government has extended the last date for wheat procurement slot booking from May 9 to May 23, 2026. This decision will particularly benefit those farmers who were unable to book their slots earlier. With additional time now available, farmers can easily register and sell their produce at government procurement centres. The extension is also expected to help manage crowding at centres and reduce waiting times.
This year, farmers are being paid ₹2,625 per quintal for wheat. This includes the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹2,585 per quintal, along with an additional bonus of ₹40 per quintal provided by the state government. Amid rising input costs, this price is expected to support farmers’ incomes and strengthen their financial position.
Improved Facilities at Procurement Centres:
Government has introduced several improvements to strengthen procurement operations. The daily slot capacity at each procurement centre has been increased from 1,000 quintals to 2,250 quintals, which can be extended up to 3,000 quintals at the district level. Additionally, at least six weighing machines have been made mandatory at every centre to ensure faster and more transparent weighing.
To further support farmers, procurement and slot booking are now also available on Saturdays. The government has also relaxed quality norms wheat with up to 50% lustre loss and up to 10% shriveled grains will now be accepted, making it easier for farmers to sell their produce.
Procurement Progress and Payments: So far, 22.70 lakh metric tonnes of wheat have been procured in the state, benefiting more than 5.08 lakh farmers. The government has transferred ₹3,575.11 crore directly into farmers’ bank accounts. For the current season, the state has set a procurement target of 100 lakh metric tonnes. Officials believe that with better management and technological improvements, this target can be achieved successfully.
