Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Madhya Pradesh is running a 90-day Jal Ganga Conservation Campaign aimed at conserving rainwater and rejuvenating old water sources. Through this campaign, various structures like farm ponds, well recharge pits, and Amrit Sarovars are being constructed under the MGNREGA scheme.
Sehore district is playing a leading role in this campaign. In 2025, over 687 farm ponds have been initiated in the district. A target of constructing 1,670 farm ponds has been set for the district. Additionally, 2,600 well recharge pits are planned, with 2,250 works approved and 1,440 already underway. These works are being continuously monitored by the Madhya Pradesh State Employment Guarantee Council.
Farmers' participation in pond construction has been remarkable. The Sehore district administration has been actively working to raise awareness among rural communities about water conservation and the importance of farm ponds. Inspired by this, farmers have proactively built ponds on their fields. This will facilitate easier irrigation and improve groundwater levels. As water is absorbed into the ground rather than flowing away, it will help increase the water levels of wells and tube wells.
Farmers in the Gram Panchayat of Haliyakhedi, under the Janpad Panchayat Ichhawar, including Shri Piyush, Shri Bapu Singh, Shri Hazarilal, and Shri Ramprasad, shared that their land was rocky and barren with no water supply, making irrigation difficult. However, with the construction of farm ponds, they will now be able to irrigate their crops two to three times. Additionally, they will be able to engage in aquaculture, which will provide an additional source of income. In Haliyakhedi village, seven farm ponds have already been constructed, and five more are in progress.
Advanced Technology for Site Selection: The Sehore district administration has been leveraging the SIPRI (Software for Identification and Planning of Rural Infrastructure) software for farm pond construction. This software uses advanced techniques such as geomorphology and hydrology to accurately identify suitable sites, ensuring that the construction of these structures is effective and sustainable.
