Market Analysis - Based on 10 December Data:

Premium varieties dominated today’s rice market, especially 1009 Kar and higher-grade “Other” varieties.
The biggest spike was recorded in Kolhapur, where the 1009 Kar variety sold for as high as ₹9,000 per quintal, making it the highest price reported across Maharashtra today.

Nagpur also performed strongly with rates ranging from ₹6,200 to ₹6,500, showing solid demand for premium rice.
Contrast, mandis such as Alibag, Murud, and Mangaon reported lower prices between ₹2,000 and ₹2,700, indicating a calmer market trend in those regions.

Terms of arrivals, Mumbai APMC topped the list with a massive arrival of 2,514 tonnes. Despite the heavy inflow, several varieties still fetched prices up to ₹6,000, which clearly reflects strong buyer demand.
Conversely, mandis with minimal arrivals like Alibag, Murud, and Nagpur continued to see relatively higher price stability.

Key Recommendations for Farmers

  1. Farmers holding premium-quality 1009 Kar should prefer markets like Kolhapur, Nagpur, Vasai, and Mumbai, where top rates are being offered.

  2. Those with medium or lower-quality rice should avoid selling in a hurry, as demand remains steady and prices are likely to rise further.

  3. Heavy-arrival markets (Mumbai, Solapur) may see slight price pressure — if you have storage options, waiting a few days could be beneficial.

  4. For small farmers:

Local direct markets often offer better prices where immediate demand is strong. Consider selling locally to avoid transportation and commission costs.
