The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a major weather alert, forecasting significant changes across several parts of the country over the next few days. Due to the influence of two active weather systems, heavy rainfall, strong winds, and turbulent sea conditions are expected in multiple southern states. Tamil Nadu and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands remain under a red alert, while Andhra Pradesh and Kerala have been placed under a heavy rain advisory.
A low-pressure area over the Strait of Malacca is rapidly intensifying and is likely to develop into a depression. IMD has warned that this system may trigger wind speeds of 50–70 kmph over the South Andaman Sea, the Nicobar region, and coastal areas near Malaysia and Indonesia. With sea conditions expected to remain extremely rough, fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea until November 28.
Another active system over the southwest Bay of Bengal and the equatorial Indian Ocean is set to bring widespread rainfall between November 25 and 30. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Tamil Nadu may witness very heavy rainfall between November 28 and 30, while Andaman & Nicobar (Nov 26–27) and coastal Andhra & Rayalaseema (Nov 30) are also expected to see intense showers.
Cold conditions have strengthened across north India. In Delhi-NCR, minimum temperatures are likely to remain between 8–10°C, with maximum temperatures hovering around 20–25°C. IMD has also forecast shallow to moderate fog from November 26 to 28, which may impact early-morning traffic.
Severe Cold in Hill States: In the hill states of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, night temperatures have dipped below 6°C at several locations. Parts of Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh are also witnessing temperatures 2–3°C below normal. Dense fog has been reported in several northeastern areas, reducing visibility to 50–100 metres.
