The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the proposal of the Department of Fertilizers to fix the Nutrient-Based Subsidy (NBS) rates on Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) fertilizers for the Rabi 2025–26 season, effective from October 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026.
As per the decision, the estimated budgetary allocation for the Rabi 2025–26 season will be ₹37,952.29 crore, which is approximately ₹736 crore higher than that of the Kharif 2025 season.
The approved NBS rates, Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and NPKS (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potash, Sulphur) grade fertilizers, along with other P&K fertilizers, will be subsidized to ensure their continuous and affordable availability for farmers across the country.
Key Benefits of the Decision:
The Government of India currently provides 28 grades of Phosphatic and Potassic fertilizers, including DAP, to farmers at subsidized prices under the Nutrient-Based Subsidy (NBS) Scheme, which has been in effect since April 1, 2010.
Following its farmer-centric approach, the government remains committed to ensuring that fertilizers remain affordable and easily available to all farmers. Considering recent volatility in the international prices of key raw materials like Urea, DAP, MOP (Muriate of Potash), and Sulphur, the Cabinet has approved the revised NBS rates for Rabi 2025–26.
As per these approved rates, fertilizer companies will receive subsidies directly from the government, ensuring that farmers continue to get fertilizers at reasonable and stable prices throughout the season.
