Strong Upswing in Maharashtra; Kamathi Records the Highest Price:

Potato prices soared in several Maharashtra mandis today. The sharpest rise was reported in Kamathi APMC, where extremely low arrivals pushed prices up to ₹2,540 per quintal, the highest in the state. Chandrapur and Sambhajinagar also recorded strong rates at ₹2,500 per quintal.

Markets like Pune, Satara and Sangli have been showing consistent upward momentum over the last few days, boosting farmer enthusiasm.

Prices Crash in Madhya Pradesh; Ujjain Drops to Just ₹200/Quintal:

In stark contrast, many mandis in Madhya Pradesh witnessed a steep decline. Ujjain APMC recorded the lowest price in the country today at just ₹200 per quintal.
Weak demand also kept prices low in Junnar (Maharashtra), where minimum rates touched ₹400 per quintal. Many farmers in these regions faced disappointment due to the sharp fall.

High-Arrival Markets See Pressure on Prices:

Massive arrivals across several major markets kept prices in check. Pune (586.9 tonnes), Nashik (180.5 tonnes), Akola (167 tonnes), and Solapur (121.6 tonnes) recorded heavy inflow of potatoes today. As expected, higher arrivals → lower prices remained the trend throughout the day.

Low-Arrival Markets Witness Strong Price Jump:

Markets with limited supply experienced a significant price boost. Kamathi, with just 0.1 tonne arrival, hit the day’s highest rate. Even Pune’s Khadki market, with only 0.6 tonne, offered impressive prices.
In Ujjain, although the general market trend was weak, high-quality potatoes fetched up to ₹1,400 per quintal, indicating good demand for premium-grade stock.

Important Advice for Farmers

  • Low-arrival mandis Kamathi, Chandrapur, Sambhajinagar: Immediate sales can be highly profitable.
  • High-arrival locations Pune, Solapur, Nashik: Prices are stable; holding stock for 5–7 days may give better returns.
  • Farmers with graded, high-quality potatoes can earn ₹300–₹500 more in markets like Chandrapur and Sambhajinagar.
  • With festive demand approaching, farmers may consider selling half the stock now and storing the rest for upcoming demand.
