Potato prices updated today, 2 September 2025

Potato prices across major mandis in India showed sharp fluctuations today. In some markets, potatoes fetched up to ₹3,500 per quintal, while in others prices dropped as low as ₹500 per quintal. Heavy arrivals kept prices under pressure in certain regions, while limited supply in select mandis pushed rates to record highs.

With the festive season around the corner, these price movements are crucial for farmers deciding whether to hold stock for higher profits or sell immediately for assured returns.

  • Highest Price → Haryana’s Hansi mandi at ₹3,500/quintal.
  • Lowest Price → Haryana’s Panipat mandi and Gujarat’s Surat mandi, both at ₹500/quintal.
  • Heavy Arrivals, Lower Prices → UP’s Etawah (1,300 tonnes) and Gujarat’s Surat (945 tonnes) saw large inflows, leading to subdued rates.
  • Low Arrivals, High Prices → Maharashtra’s Kamthi (₹2,530 at just 1 tonne), UP’s Doharighat (₹1,800 at 1 tonne), and Rajasthan’s Suratgarh (₹1,600 at 0.3 tonnes) witnessed stronger prices.
  • Sharp Falls → In Etawah and Surat, heavy arrivals pushed prices below ₹1,000.
  • Steep Gains → Hansi, Kamthi, and Maigalganj saw prices soar above ₹1,600.

Farmer Advisory:

  1. Hold Stock Where Arrivals Are Heavy: Farmers in areas like Surat, Etawah, and Rajkot should consider storing potatoes, as current prices are suppressed.
  2. Sell Immediately in High-Price Mandis: Farmers in Hansi, Kamthi, and Maigalganj can sell now for strong profits.
  3. Festive Season Strategy: With demand likely to rise during the festive season, farmers should sell part of their stock now and keep some for later.
  4. Leverage Storage Facilities: Farmers with cold storage access can hold potatoes safely for higher future returns.
