Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 22nd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on March 13, 2026. The funds will be transferred to farmers’ bank accounts from Guwahati in Assam. Under this installment, more than ₹18,640 crore will be directly credited to the bank accounts of over 9.32 crore farmer families across the country through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

Total Financial Assistance to Cross ₹4.27 Lakh Crore:

According to Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, since the launch of the scheme in February 2019, more than ₹4.09 lakh crore has already been transferred directly to farmers’ accounts.

With the release of the 22nd installment, the total cumulative transfer will exceed ₹4.27 lakh crore. The minister noted that the scheme represents a significant step toward strengthening farmers’ income by providing direct financial support to small and marginal farmers. Under PM-KISAN, each eligible farmer family receives ₹6,000 annually, paid in three equal installments, which are transferred directly into their bank accounts.

Over 2.15 Crore Women Farmers to Receive Benefits:

Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the financial assistance provided under the scheme helps farmers purchase essential agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers and pesticides on time. It also supports households in meeting important expenses related to education and healthcare. He added that more than 2.15 crore women farmers will receive financial assistance under the 22nd installment. This is expected to strengthen the economic condition of rural households while also promoting women’s empowerment in villages.

Scheme Strengthening the Rural Economy:

Union Minister stated that several independent studies have shown that the PM-KISAN scheme has boosted demand in rural markets, reduced farmers’ dependence on credit and encouraged higher investment in agriculture. He emphasized that the scheme is fully technology-driven and transparent, operating through India’s digital public infrastructure, ensuring that funds reach beneficiaries directly without any intermediaries.

Farmers Can Complete e-KYC from Home:

For the convenience of farmers, the PM-KISAN portal now provides a “Know Your Status (KYS)” module. Through this feature, beneficiaries can check details such as payment status, eligibility, land record verification, Aadhaar linking and e-KYC status in one place.

To simplify the e-KYC process, a face-authentication-based mobile application has also been introduced. Using this app, farmers can complete their e-KYC from home without requiring OTP verification or biometric devices. In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture has launched an AI-powered voice chatbot “Kisan-eMitra”, which provides 24-hour assistance in 11 regional languages and helps farmer’s access information related to the PM-KISAN scheme.

Ensuring Benefits Reach Only Eligible Farmers:

The government is also taking steps to ensure that the scheme benefits only genuine and eligible farmers. To achieve this, a voluntary surrender facility has been introduced for affluent farmers who wish to opt out of the scheme. At the same time, mechanisms have been created to reactivate accounts of farmers who may have surrendered their benefits by mistake, ensuring that no eligible beneficiary is left out.

Farmers Urged to Complete e-KYC:

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged farmers across the country to visit the PM-KISAN portal verify their details and complete their e-KYC process at the earliest. This will help ensure that the 22nd installment scheduled for March 13 is credited to their bank accounts without any delay.
