Today’s onion trade across major Indian mandis presented a mixed picture for farmers and traders. While heavy arrivals in Maharashtra and Gujarat dragged prices down, select markets in Bihar and a few premium centers saw onion prices soar to record levels. Farmers in Kamthi and Hingna mandis celebrated rates crossing ₹2,000 per quintal, whereas growers in parts of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra faced distress as prices fell as low as ₹100 per quintal.

If you are planning to sell your harvest, this report will help you understand where prices are currently favorable and where holding stock may prove more profitable.

Price & Arrival Highlights:

  • Highest Prices → Maharashtra’s Kamthi mandi (₹2,060/quintal) and Hingna mandi (₹2,000/quintal).
  • Lowest Prices → Madhya Pradesh’s Sehore (₹100/quintal) and Maharashtra’s Gangapur (₹105/quintal).
  • Largest Arrivals → Maharashtra’s Lasalgaon (1,117 tonnes) and Gujarat’s Ahmedabad (775 tonnes), where heavy inflow kept rates under pressure.
  • High Prices Despite Low Arrivals → Bihar markets (Barahat ₹2,800, Jayanagar ₹2,600, Sheohar ₹2,500) and select Maharashtra markets (Kamthi, Hingna).
  • Sharp Declines → Madhya Pradesh (Bhopal, Sehore) and Maharashtra (Chandvad, Devla, Gangapur) due to large supplies dragging prices down to ₹200–500/quintal.

Advisory for Farmers:

  1. Markets with Prices Above ₹2,000 (Kamthi, Hingna, Bihar region): Sell immediately to maximize profit.
  2. Heavy Arrival Markets (Lasalgaon, Ahmedabad, Gangapur): Prices are likely to stay under pressure — consider holding stock if possible.
  3. Festive Demand Outlook → Onion prices may strengthen in the coming weeks as seasonal demand picks up.
  4. Farmers with Storage Facilities → Adopt gradual selling to benefit from potential price recovery.
