Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, visited the Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering (CIAE) in Bhopal, a premier institution under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). During his visit, he addressed scientists, students, and staff members, appreciating the institute’s significant contributions to the agricultural sector. He emphasized the need to accelerate the development of farmer-friendly technologies, especially for small and marginal farmers, and ensure timely transfer of innovations to the field level.
Reviewing the recent work done by the institute, Shri Chouhan stressed the effective utilization of the AICRP (All India Coordinated Research Project) network to better understand region-specific agricultural needs. He urged the preparation of a 10-year mechanization strategy aligned with the goals of the "Viksit Bharat Abhiyan" (Developed India Campaign). He also highlighted the importance of developing machines powered by small engines and alternative energy sources, promoting sensor-based systems, and ensuring inclusive agricultural development.
The Union Minister proposed organizing farmer fairs across the country to engage with stakeholders and shape a roadmap for agricultural mechanization. He also emphasized the importance of food security, soil health, and the efficient transfer of technology from laboratories to farmlands.
Shri Chouhan observed various new agricultural machines and technologies developed by the institute and commended their practicality and efficiency. He particularly appreciated the Tractor-Operated Plastic Mulch Layer-Cum-Planter, calling it a game-changing innovation for small-scale farmers.
