The ‘National Agriculture Conference – Rabi Abhiyan 2025’ began today at Pusa, New Delhi. Organized by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, the conference is being held as a two-day event for the first time. The theme, “One Nation – One Agriculture – One Team”, highlights the vision of coordinated efforts and stronger partnerships in the farm sector.
The conference was inaugurated by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who underlined that Indian agriculture is advancing at 3.7% growth rate — the fastest in the world. He credited this achievement to the hard work of farmers, the contribution of scientists, and the government’s farmer-friendly policies.

India to Become the “Food Basket of the World”:

Chouhan expressed confidence that there will be no shortage of grains, fruits, or vegetables in the country. “We will make India the food basket of the world,” he said, stressing that both the Centre and the states are working in unison to strengthen farmer welfare.
Addressing officials, he added, “We are not ordinary people; we hold the responsibility of shaping the future of half of the nation’s population. We must dedicate ourselves with full sincerity and commitment to the upliftment of farmers.”

Crackdown on Adulterated Inputs:

The minister also announced strict action against cases of spurious fertilisers, seeds, and pesticides. Only bio-stimulants that meet quality standards will be permitted for sale. “Exploitation of farmers will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he asserted.

Chouhan urged state governments, agricultural universities, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, and related institutions to design concrete strategies and implement them effectively at the grassroots level.

Focus on Crop Insurance and Research:

Highlighting unpredictable weather patterns, Chouhan emphasised the need to bring more farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. He also called for agricultural research to focus on solving real problems faced by farmers, instead of remaining confined to academic papers.

Participation of Experts and Policymakers:

Union Agriculture Secretary Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi informed that six parallel sessions are being conducted as part of the conference. ICAR Director General Dr. M. L. Jat and Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena were also present at the inaugural session.

The two-day conference is hosting senior officials from the Centre and states, ICAR scientists, agricultural experts, farmer representatives, and other stakeholders. The platform is aimed at shaping preparations, production targets, and strategies for the Rabi 2025–26 season through detailed discussions.
