Monsoon picks up pace: heavy rainfall alerts issued across multiple states

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across several parts of the country between June 24 and June 29, 2025. With the monsoon systems becoming more active, regions in central, eastern, western, northern, and southern India are expected to witness intensified rainfall activity.

Heavy Rainfall Warning for Vidarbha, Bihar, and Odisha:

On June 24, extremely heavy rainfall is likely over parts of West Madhya Pradesh, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected over the state through June 27.
Scattered heavy rainfall is also forecasted in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh during this period.

  1. Bihar may experience very heavy rain on June 24
  2. Vidarbha from June 24 to 26
  3. Jharkhand on June 26
  4. Odisha on June 25 and 26

These areas may also witness thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40–50 km/h.

Konkana, Goa, and Gujarat to See Torrential Rains:

From June 24 to 29, heavy rainfall is expected over Konkan, Goa, Gujarat, and parts of Madhya Maharashtra. A very heavy rainfall alert has been issued for Konkan on June 24. Light to moderate rains are likely across Gujarat, Marathwada, and other parts of Maharashtra throughout the week.

Widespread rain is expected over the northern states:

  1. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may receive very heavy rain from June 24 to 27
  2. East Rajasthan on June 24
  3. Punjab, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh on June 25 and 26
  4. Jammu & Kashmir-Ladakh region on June 25

Thunderstorms and winds between 30–40 km/h may accompany the rains.

Thunderstorms and Rain over South India:

  1. Kerala and Karnataka are likely to witness heavy showers from June 24 to 27
  2. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam may receive heavy rain on June 27 and 28
  3. Strong surface winds (40–60 km/h) are expected in coastal and inland regions of these states
  4. Rainfall with thunder and lightning is also likely over Telangana, Rayalaseema, Lakshadweep, Mahe, and surrounding areas

Advisory for Farmers and Residents: The IMD has advised farmers and the general public to stay updated with local weather forecasts, avoid low-lying or flood-prone areas, and follow official advisories. In regions expecting extremely heavy rainfall, precautions against waterlogging, lightning strikes, and landslides should be strictly followed.
