The southwest monsoon has gained momentum, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several regions across the country over the coming days. Multiple weather systems are expected to bring widespread showers, thunderstorms, and strong winds to various parts of India.

Northwest India Braces for Intense Showers and Thunderstorms:

From June 27 to July 2, states such as Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and eastern Rajasthan are likely to witness scattered heavy rainfall. Very heavy showers are also forecast in select pockets of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand—particularly around June 29. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 km/h are also expected during this period.

West India to Witness Continued Rainfall Activity:

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to persist in Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, and the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra over the next six days. Most places in these regions are likely to receive light to moderate rain throughout the forecast period.

Widespread Rain Predicted for Central and Eastern India:

States including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal are likely to receive heavy rainfall between June 27 and July 2. Notably, very heavy rainfall is predicted in western Madhya Pradesh on June 27, July 1, and July 2, and in eastern Madhya Pradesh on June 30 and July 1. Jharkhand may experience heavy downpours on June 29. Thunderstorms with strong winds are also expected in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Vidarbha, Bihar, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Northeast India to See Week-Long Rainfall Spell: The northeastern states will continue to experience light to moderate rain with isolated thunderstorms and lightning over the next seven days. Arunachal Pradesh, in particular, is expected to receive very heavy rainfall on June 30.

Heavy Rain and Wind Alerts for Southern States: Heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu from June 27 to 29. Coastal Karnataka and Kerala could receive very heavy rainfall on June 27. Strong surface winds reaching speeds of 40–60 km/h are also forecast over Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Telangana during this period.

IMD’s Advisory for Citizens: The IMD has advised farmers, travelers, and the general public to stay alert and adhere to local advisories. In regions with predicted heavy rainfall and strong winds, precautionary measures are essential to ensure safety and minimize disruption.
