Union Minister of Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has announced a significant relief measure for mango farmers in Karnataka. In light of falling mango prices, the Central and State Governments will jointly compensate farmers by covering the price difference between the market rate and actual sale price.

This decision was made during a video conference attended by Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Karnataka's Agriculture Minister Shri N. Chaluvaraya Swamy, and Union Agriculture Secretary Shri Devesh Chaturvedi.

Price Support for 2.5 Lakh Metric Tonnes of Mangoes:

As per the agreement, farmers will receive compensation for 2.5 lakh metric tonnes of mangoes. The cost of this support will be equally shared between the Central and Karnataka State Governments. The decision follows a formal proposal submitted by the Karnataka government, highlighting the significant decline in prices of Totapuri mangoes.

Tomato Prices Stabilized, Focus Remains on Mango Relief:

Karnataka’s estimated mango production for this year stands at 10 lakh metric tonnes, of which 2.5 lakh tonnes have been approved for price differential support. The proposal also initially included tomatoes; however, officials clarified that tomato prices have since stabilized and do not require immediate intervention.

Karnataka Agriculture Minister Shri Chaluvaraya Swamy expressed gratitude to the Central Government and Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, stating that this initiative will provide much-needed economic support to mango farmers and offer timely relief amid price fluctuations.
