The Madhya Pradesh government has reiterated its commitment to farmers’ welfare, announcing a series of initiatives aimed at ensuring prosperity and reducing cultivation costs. These measures include a substantial subsidy on agricultural solar pumps, promotion of agri-based industries, expansion of irrigation facilities, and financial support for livestock and dairy development.

Irrigation Expansion across the State:

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav highlighted that in the last 15 months alone, irrigation coverage in the state has expanded by more than 7 lakh hectares. He recalled that in 2003, only 7.5 lakh hectares were under irrigation, but since then, the figure has increased by over 44 lakh hectares. Major river-link projects such as Ken-Betwa and Parvati–Kali Sindh–Chambal are expected to bring transformative irrigation opportunities to Bundelkhand and the Gwalior-Chambal region.

Affordable Farming and Better Returns:

To lower the cost of cultivation, the government is providing 90% subsidy on 5 HP and 10 HP solar pumps. Interest-free agricultural loans are also being made available. The Chief Minister added that Madhya Pradesh offered the highest procurement price in the country this year, purchasing wheat at ₹2,600 per quintal.

Boost to Agri-Based Industries and Technology:

The government is also focusing on promoting agri-based industries and introducing innovative farming solutions. Napier grass is being cultivated in ravine areas, while large-scale farmers’ fairs are being organized to provide access to modern tools and technology. The upcoming mega farmers’ fair in Morena is expected to benefit farmers across the Gwalior-Chambal belt. The Chief Minister also lauded large-scale sowing through super seeders in Gwalior and the training of “Drone Didis” to modernize agriculture.

Additionally, under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi and the Chief Minister Kisan Kalyan Yojana, farmers are receiving direct annual financial assistance of ₹10,000 in their bank accounts.

Ministers’ Remarks: Agriculture Minister Aidal Singh Kansana emphasized that “a prosperous farmer means a prosperous nation.” He assured that no district or tehsil in Madhya Pradesh will face a shortage of fertilizers, and any complaint will be addressed within 12 hours.
