The leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), headquartered in New Delhi, has achieved a historic milestone. For the first time in the history of independent India, the total business turnover of Khadi and Village Industries has crossed ₹1.70 lakh crore.
KVIC Chairman Shri Manoj Kumar shared that over the past 11 years, production in the Khadi and Village Industries sector has grown by 347%, and sales have surged by 447%. In 2013-14, the total production stood at ₹26,109.07 crore, which increased nearly fourfold to ₹1,16,599.75 crore in 2024-25. Similarly, sales rose from ₹31,154.19 crore to ₹1,70,551.37 crore — the highest ever recorded.
FY 2024-25, the Khadi and Village Industries sector created employment for 1.94 crore people, marking a 49.23% increase compared to 2013-14. The Khadi Gramodyog Bhawan in New Delhi also witnessed significant growth in business, rising from ₹51.02 crore in 2013-14 to ₹110.01 crore in 2024-25 — a 115% increase. Production of Khadi garments also saw a remarkable growth of 366%.
To date, over 10.18 lakh units have been established under the PMEGP scheme, with loans worth ₹73,348.39 crore disbursed. The Government of India has provided margin money subsidies totaling ₹27,166.07 crore, generating employment for more than 90 lakh people.
Innovation and Empowerment Gramodyog Vikas Yojana:
The budget for the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana has been increased to ₹60 crore for FY 2025-26, up from ₹25.65 crore in 2021-22. Under this scheme, over 2.87 lakh tools and equipment have been distributed so far, including electric pottery wheels, bee boxes, incense stick-making machines, paper plate machines, turnwood machines, and toy-making equipment.
Leading Role in Women Empowerment: Over the past decade, 7,43,904 individuals have been trained through 35 KVIC training centers, of which 57.45% are women. Additionally, 80% of the five lakh artisans working in the Khadi sector are women. Wages of Khadi artisans have increased by 275% over the past 11 years and by 100% in the last three years alone.
A Strong Step towards ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’: Chairman Shri Manoj Kumar stated that this exceptional performance is the result of the inspiration from Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the guidance of the Ministry of MSME, and the hard work of millions of rural artisans. He emphasized that this achievement is a significant step toward the vision of a ‘Developed India by 2047’.
