India’s weather pattern is set for another major shift in the coming days, bringing relief from intense heat but also raising concerns over severe weather activity. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several regions across North, Northeast, East, Central, West and South India are likely to witness rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning strikes, gusty winds and even hailstorms over the next few days.
Wind speeds in some areas may reach between 30 and 70 kmph, which could disrupt normal life and affect travel and farming activities. Authorities have advised residents, farmers and commuters to remain alert and follow local weather updates closely.

Fresh Western Disturbance to Impact Northwest India:

A new western disturbance is becoming active over Northwest India, increasing the chances of unstable weather conditions in the Himalayan region. Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds on May 10.

From May 11 to 14, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may witness widespread rainfall and snowfall in higher reaches. Punjab, Haryana weather and Chandigarh are also likely to receive light rainfall during this period, while weather conditions in Uttar Pradesh could change between May 12 and 14. The IMD has also warned of isolated hailstorm activity over Jammu & Kashmir on May 11 and 12, and over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on May 12 and 13.

Northeast India Faces Risk of Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall:

The northeastern states are expected to experience prolonged wet weather over the coming days. Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to witness scattered to widespread rainfall along with thunderstorms and strong winds between May 10 and 15.

Arunachal Pradesh may receive heavy rainfall from May 12 to 15, while Assam and Meghalaya are under heavy rain alert from May 11 onward. Weather officials have warned that very heavy rainfall could occur in Assam and Meghalaya on May 14 and 15, increasing the possibility of waterlogging and local flooding in vulnerable areas.

Changing Weather Conditions Over Central India:

Parts of Central India are also expected to see weather activity in the coming days. Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh may receive light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm activity between May 10 and 13.
Chhattisgarh, in particular, could witness strong squally winds on May 10, posing a risk to standing crops and outdoor infrastructure.

Rain and Strong Winds Likely in Maharashtra:

Several parts of Maharashtra are likely to receive rainfall accompanied by lightning and strong winds over the next two days. Wind speeds may reach up to 50 kmph in some districts.
While the changing weather may bring temporary relief from scorching temperatures, sudden thunderstorms and strong winds could create difficulties for commuters and farmers.

Heavy Rain Alert for Southern States:

South India is also expected to remain under the influence of active weather systems. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep are likely to witness widespread rainfall between May 10 and 13.
Meanwhile, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and parts of Karnataka may also experience thunderstorms and gusty winds during this period. Heavy rainfall warnings remain in place for Tamil Nadu and Kerala for the next seven days. According to the forecast, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala could experience very heavy rainfall on May 14 and 15, which may lead to waterlogging and traffic disruptions in low-lying areas.

Advisory for Farmers and Residents:

The weather department has advised farmers to plan agricultural activities such as harvesting, irrigation and pesticide spraying according to local forecasts. People are also advised to avoid open areas, trees and electric poles during thunderstorms and strong winds.

Regions where hailstorms or intense rainfall are expected, precautionary measures should be taken to protect crops, livestock and essential supplies. Although the changing weather may offer relief from extreme summer heat, it could also create challenges in several parts of the country over the coming days.
