The monsoon has regained momentum across various regions of India. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over eastern, central, western, southern, and northern parts of the country over the next 5 to 7 days. Thunderstorms, strong winds, and lightning are also expected in many areas.
Widespread Showers Likely in East and Central India:
- West Madhya Pradesh may witness extremely heavy rainfall on 27th July.
- East Madhya Pradesh is expected to receive heavy rains on 27th–28th July.
- Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and Gangetic West Bengal may see heavy rainfall between 27th and 30th July.
- Jharkhand is likely to receive rainfall from 29th to 31st July, while Odisha may experience showers on 31st July.
- Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim could see heavy rains on 27th–28th July and again on 31st July and 1st August.
The region is expected to receive light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30–40 km/h) over the next 5 days.
Monsoon to Remain Active Over South India:
- Tamil Nadu may experience isolated heavy rainfall on 27th July.
- Kerala and Mahe are likely to receive rainfall between 27th and 30th July.
- Coastal Karnataka could see continuous rain from 27th July to 1st August, while Interior Karnataka may receive rainfall between 27th and 29th July.
- Very heavy rainfall is also likely at some locations in Coastal and Interior Karnataka.
- Strong surface winds (40–50 km/h) are expected over the southern peninsula for the next 5 days.
Rain Alert in Western India: Gujarat and Maharashtra on Watch:
- Gujarat Region is at risk of extremely heavy rainfall on 27th July.
- Konkan, Goa, Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Saurashtra, and Kutch may witness heavy rains from 27th to 30th July.
- Very heavy rainfall is expected over Saurashtra, Kutch, and Konkan-Goa on 27th July, and over Gujarat Region on 28th July.
Northern India: From the Hills to the Plains:
- East Rajasthan may experience extremely heavy rainfall on 27th–28th July.
- Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Jammu & Kashmir are likely to see moderate to heavy showers from 27th July to 1st August.
- Thunderstorms and lightning are expected over the western Himalayan region, along with scattered showers in the plains during the next 7 days.
Northeast India to Continue Receiving Showers:
- Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya may receive rainfall from 27th July to 1st August, with very heavy rainfall likely on 27th July.
- Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura may experience thunderstorms and scattered showers on 27th–28th July.
