Weather Update – 14 September 2025: Heavy Rain in Bihar, Himachal & Northeast; Monsoon Retreat Begins in Rajasthan

The weather across India continues to show significant variations. While heavy rainfall has disrupted daily life in Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, and northeastern states, the monsoon has officially begun its retreat from parts of Rajasthan. According to the Meteorological Department, in the next 2–3 days, the monsoon is likely to withdraw from additional areas of Rajasthan, Punjab, and parts of Gujarat, affecting agriculture and daily life across these regions.

Past 24 Hours – Rainfall Overview:

  • Very Heavy Rainfall (≥21 cm): Bihar, parts of Himachal Pradesh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim.
  • Heavy Rainfall (12–20 cm): Telangana, Konkan & Goa, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and parts of Marathwada.
  • Moderate to Heavy Rainfall (7–11 cm): Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Gangetic West Bengal, Gujarat region, Uttarakhand, eastern Madhya Pradesh, and central Maharashtra.

Monsoon Retreat Begins

From 14 September 2025, the southwest monsoon has officially started retreating. Certain parts of Rajasthan have already witnessed the monsoon withdrawal. The Meteorological Department forecasts that over the next 2–3 days, the monsoon may retreat further from additional areas of Rajasthan, Punjab, and some regions of Gujarat.

Northeast India – Forecast

Rainfall is expected to continue across northeastern states:

  • Arunachal Pradesh: 14–17 September may see light to moderate rainfall at most places, with isolated heavy showers. Very heavy rainfall is possible on 15–16 September.
  • Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura: Showers are expected on 15–16 September and again between 18–20 September at several locations. Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur on 14 September itself.
