Prime Minister Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY), a flagship central sector scheme launched in 2017 by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, is playing a crucial role in strengthening food processing infrastructure across India. The demand-driven scheme invites project proposals nationwide through periodic Expressions of Interest (EOIs), issued based on fund availability.

Eight Projects Approved with Financial Support:

Since January 2025, no new projects have been sanctioned in Jharkhand or Odisha. However, since the scheme’s inception, two projects in Jharkhand and six in Odisha’s Nabarangpur region have been approved, receiving grant assistance of ₹0.93 crore and ₹23.62 crore respectively.

Over 1,600 Projects Sanctioned Nationwide:

As of 31 December 2025, a total of 1,607 projects have been approved under various components of the scheme, of which 1,196 are already operational. These initiatives have benefited 3,610,782 farmers across the country. Beneficiaries include 7,150 farmers from Nabarangpur, 137,852 from Rajasthan, and 53,203 from Jammu and Kashmir.

₹1,000 Crore Additional Allocation for Labs and Units:

The central government has sanctioned an additional ₹1,000 crore to establish 50 multi-product food irradiation units and 100 food testing laboratories, allocating ₹500 crore for each category. The original scheme budget of ₹4,600 crore has also been increased by 20%, adding ₹920 crore more.

An EOI issued on 27 May 2025 for irradiation units remains open until 28 February 2026, under which 14 projects have already been approved—none from Jharkhand or Odisha. Similarly, the EOI for 100 food testing labs, released on 21 November 2025, is open until 27 February 2026, but no projects from these two states have yet been cleared.

Rising Farmer Income and Employment:

The food processing infrastructure created under the scheme boosts demand for agricultural produce, helping farmers secure better prices and improving farm-level profitability. By the end of 2025, more than 3.6 million farmers had benefited, and 469,403 jobs were generated nationwide, including 4,249 in Nabarangpur alone.

Some Districts Still Await Projects:

Certain districts such as Hazaribagh and Ramgarh in Jharkhand have not yet received any projects under the scheme, indicating strong potential for future investments and expansion. Overall, PMKSY is emerging as a vital link between agriculture and food processing, driving higher farmer incomes, employment generation, and rural industrial growth across India.
