The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is actively strengthening India’s food processing and storage infrastructure through the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY). As of June 30, 2025, a total of 1,601 projects have been approved under the scheme with a total project cost of ₹30,656.57 crore, and an approved grant of ₹8,853.38 crore.
Between January 2024 and June 2025, 52 new projects have been approved under various component schemes of PMKSY. Among these, one project — Vimta Labs Limited in Telangana — has already been operationalized under the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Infrastructure component.
The establishment of post-harvest infrastructure and processing units under PMKSY is helping farmers receive better value for their produce while significantly reducing post-harvest losses. Financial assistance is provided for setting up cold storages, refrigerated transport vehicles, and food preservation units.
According to a 2020 evaluation study conducted by NABARD Consultancy Services (NABCONS), interventions made under the Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure Scheme have led to a considerable reduction in wastage across the fruits & vegetables, dairy, and fisheries sectors.
