Union Minister of Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, participated in the Rabi Workshop and Agricultural Consultation Dialogue held in Patna during his visit to Bihar.

Agriculture – The Backbone of India’s Economy:

Addressing agricultural scientists, advisors, and farmers, Shri Chouhan stated, “Agriculture is the backbone of India’s economy, and farmers are its soul. Serving farmers is equivalent to serving God.”

India’s Journey of Agricultural Transformation:

Recalling the transformation in India’s agriculture, the Union Minister said, “There was a time when India imported red wheat from the United States under the PL-480 program. Today, our granaries are filled with wheat and rice, and the country has emerged as an exporter of food grains.” He credited this achievement to the relentless efforts of farmers and the crucial role of agricultural advisors.

The Crucial Role of Agricultural Advisors:

Appreciating the contribution of advisors, Shri Chouhan noted, “Without agricultural advisors, the achievements of research laboratories could never have reached the grassroots level. The government recognizes their importance and is fully committed to ensuring their respect and safeguarding their interests.”

Bihar’s Agriculture: A Leader in Pulses and Maize Production:

Highlighting Bihar’s potential in pulses and maize cultivation, the Minister said, “Under the Pulse Mission, India will become self-reliant in pulse production, with agricultural advisors playing a vital role in this mission.” He also referred to the recent approval of increased Minimum Support Prices (MSP) by the Union Cabinet.

New Direction for Agriculture under PM Modi’s Leadership:

During the program, Shri Chouhan emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanaya Krishi Yojana aims to boost agricultural productivity in low-yield districts, including many in Bihar. “Under this scheme, eleven departments will work together in coordination to enhance productivity,” he added.

Nation First: Protecting Farmers’ Interests:

Quoting the Prime Minister’s principle of “Nation First”, Shri Chouhan affirmed that India will never compromise on the interests of its farmers. “Today, India is moving ahead as an independent and sovereign nation, shaping its own vision,” he said.

Appreciation for Bihar’s Farmers: Praising Bihar’s farmers, the Minister remarked that the state continues to lead in several crops. He expressed confidence that in the years to come, agriculture will remain the strongest foundation of India’s prosperity.
