In a major move towards empowering India's farming sector, the Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the ambitious "PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana". Aimed at revitalizing agriculture, boosting crop productivity, and creating rural employment, this scheme is set to be a game-changer for farmers across the country.
What is PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana?
The scheme will be launched in the financial year 2025-26 and will continue for the next six years. Initially, it will be implemented in 100 districts selected on the basis of low crop productivity, fewer crop cycles, and limited agricultural credit access.
The goal is to target regions where agricultural support is needed the most.
Key Objectives of the Scheme
The scheme focuses on improving every stage of agriculture through:
- Promoting crop diversification
- Expanding irrigation facilities
- Developing storage and warehousing facilities at both village and block levels.
- Providing easy access to agricultural loans
- Encouraging sustainable and natural farming practices
Implementation Strategy
The PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana will integrate 36 existing government schemes from 11 central ministries into a single, coordinated framework. It will be implemented jointly by the central government, state governments, and private partners to ensure integrated and impactful development on the ground.
District-Level Custom Planning
- Each of the 100 selected districts will form a ‘Dhan Dhanya Committee’, including progressive farmers and local experts.
- These committees will prepare district-specific agricultural development plans tailored to local conditions.
- Plans will focus on key themes such as water conservation, soil health improvement, and organic farming.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- The progress of the scheme will be monitored through 117 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), which will be updated monthly on a centralized national dashboard.
- NITI Aayog will oversee regular reviews and provide guidance to ensure measurable outcomes.
Expected Benefits
The government expects significant outcomes from the successful execution of this scheme:
- Higher agricultural productivity across targeted districts
- Growth in rural agro-industries
- Increased employment opportunities in villages
- Enhanced self-reliance in the agricultural sector
