In a significant move aimed at empowering rural workers, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced a hike in the minimum wages of agricultural laborers. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved a daily wage increase to ₹252, ensuring a monthly income of up to ₹6,552 for laborers engaged in farming and related activities.
The new wage policy is not limited to traditional farm laborers. Workers involved in allied agricultural activities such as animal husbandry, beekeeping, and mushroom farming will also benefit. The revised wage structure will be applicable across all types of farming and agricultural support tasks throughout the state.
To promote transparency and timely disbursement of wages, payments can now be made through cash, agricultural produce, or digital transactions. Additionally, an hourly wage rate has been introduced to ensure fair compensation for part-time or seasonal workers.
The government has clarified that workers already earning above the new minimum wage will continue to receive their current benefits without any deductions. The new rates are designed to set a fair baseline for all.
A Step towards Respect and Self-Reliance:
Calling it a step towards dignity and self-reliance for workers, CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized that the government's aim is not just financial assistance, but to uplift the living standards of laborers and recognize their valuable contribution to the rural economy.
Boost to Rural Economy and Employment:
The announcement has been welcomed by farmer associations and labor unions alike. They believe this move will not only enhance rural incomes but also boost local employment. The inclusion of digital payment options is expected to improve transparency and efficiency in wage disbursal.
Strict Monitoring for Effective Implementation: The government has assured that a robust monitoring mechanism will be put in place to ensure effective implementation of the policy. This decision is poised to play a key role in strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s rural economy and advancing the welfare of agricultural workers.
