India Weather Update
India Weather Update

Weather conditions across India have taken a notable turn, bringing relief from rising temperatures in several regions. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an active western disturbance combined with cyclonic circulations has made the weather unstable over northern, central, and eastern parts of the country. Over the next few days, thunderstorms, rainfall, lightning, and strong winds are expected to affect large areas.

Storms, Rain and Strong Winds Likely Till March 22:

IMD reports that due to these active systems, northwestern India and the western Himalayan region are likely to witness continued rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds until March 20. States such as Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana weather, western Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan may also experience hailstorm activity.

Meanwhile, central and eastern India is expected to see thunderstorms and rain along with strong winds continuing until March 22. Wind speeds in several areas may range between 50 to 90 km/h, increasing the impact of the ongoing weather system.

Cloudy Skies and Rain Expected in Delhi-NCR:

Delhi-NCR, the IMD forecasts cloudy skies on March 20, with light to moderate rainfall occurring intermittently throughout the day. Thunderstorms and gusty winds with speeds of 30–50 km/h are also likely. Temperatures are expected to remain below normal, with maximum temperatures ranging between 25°C and 27°C, and minimum temperatures between 15°C and 17°C. Weather conditions are likely to improve gradually from March 21, with partly cloudy skies persisting until March 22.

Weather Turns Pleasant in Uttar Pradesh:

Uttar Pradesh has also witnessed a sudden change in weather, bringing relief from heat. Over the past 24 hours, rainfall has been recorded in several districts including Lucknow, Bareilly, Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, and Kanpur, while moderate rainfall occurred in Kanpur and Varanasi. Persistent cloud cover has led to a noticeable drop in temperatures, easing heat conditions across the state.

Alert Issued for 70 Districts:

The IMD has issued a rainfall alert for nearly 70 districts in Uttar Pradesh. In addition, warnings for thunderstorms and hailstorms have been issued in several areas. Wind speeds of 50–60 km/h are expected in many parts of the state. In Lucknow, the maximum temperature was recorded at 35°C, which is about 3°C above normal.

When Will the Weather Improve?

According to the IMD, rainfall and snowfall activity over the northern hilly regions will gradually decrease after March 20. However, another western disturbance may influence weather conditions around March 22. Plains of northern India including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are likely to see clearer skies from March 21, along with a gradual rise in temperatures. Eastern India is expected to witness improvement after March 21, while central India may return to normal conditions within the next 2–3 days.
