The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for several regions in central and eastern India between June 19 and 25, forecasting light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 km/h.
Today, major cities in Madhya Pradesh including Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, and Rewa are likely to witness heavy showers, with strong winds expected in some areas.

Severe Rain Alert for Jharkhand on June 19:

IMD has warned of extremely heavy rainfall (over 20 cm) at isolated locations in Jharkhand on June 19. This could potentially disrupt daily life and impact crops. Authorities and residents have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.

Rainfall and Wind Forecast Highlights (June 19–25):

  1. Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Gangetic West Bengal are expected to receive widespread rainfall between June 19 and 22.
  2. On June 19, parts of Madhya Pradesh may experience thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km/h, gusting up to 70 km/h.
  3. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal on June 19.

Impact on Agriculture: Farmers Must Be Alert:

The forecasted heavy rains and strong winds may pose risks to agriculture:

  1. Increased humidity may lead to fungal diseases in pulse and vegetable crops.
  2. Waterlogging may delay sowing of kharif crops like soybean and maize.
  3. Standing crops may lodge (fall over), and harvested produce may get spoiled if not stored properly.
  4. Paddy bunds (embankments) may get washed away, affecting rice fields.

Agromet Advisory for Farmers

  1. Avoid fertilizer and pesticide spraying during rain or strong winds.
  2. Postpone sowing during heavy rain to prevent seed loss and poor germination.
  3. Cover nurseries with straw or nets during gusty winds and showers.
  4. Do not tether livestock under trees during thunderstorms.
  5. Keep animal shelters clean and dry to prevent infections.

Stay updated with local weather forecasts and take timely protective measures to minimize agricultural losses.
