According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), significant weather changes are expected across various regions of the country over the next few days. From June 17 to June 22, several states may experience thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rainfall.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected over parts of South India, including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, and Karnataka on June 17 and 18. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are also likely in some areas. Coastal Karnataka may receive very heavy rainfall, while Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and other nearby regions may experience heavy showers.
Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Telangana are likely to witness thunderstorms and strong winds with rain between June 17 and 20.
In western India, including Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada, moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds is forecast from June 17 to 20. Extremely heavy rainfall (over 20 cm in 24 hours) is likely over Saurashtra and Kutch on June 17.
Parts of Central and Eastern India — including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Gangetic West Bengal — are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning from June 17 to 20. Strong winds and localized heavy rainfall are likely, especially in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand on June 17.
Rain Alert Issued for Northern States: In North India, regions such as Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir are likely to receive light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds between June 17 and 22. Heavy rainfall is expected in eastern Uttar Pradesh during this period, with very heavy rain forecast between June 19 and 21.
Northeast India to Continue Receiving Heavy Rainfall: Northeastern states are likely to see continued light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms over the next seven days. Some areas may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall during this period.
