The weather across India is changing rapidly, with several states placed under alerts for cold waves, dense fog, and rainfall on December 6. While northern regions brace for harsher winter conditions, parts of South India are likely to receive moderate showers.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), winter conditions will remain at their peak today in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi weather, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and eastern Rajasthan. Cold wave conditions are expected to persist over these states on December 6 and 7 as well. Northwestern Jharkhand and northern interior Odisha are also likely to be affected by the cold wave.
Heavy fog may disrupt morning activities in several parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Himachal Pradesh is expected to experience dense fog between December 6 and 8, while Odisha is also under warning for reduced visibility on December 6 and 7.
Light to moderate rainfall is likely in parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema today. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands may witness thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of 30–50 km/h. These weather changes are attributed to a western disturbance and cyclonic circulation over the region.
The IMD has predicted a slight increase of 2–3°C in minimum temperatures over northwest India during the next three days. However, the cold conditions are expected to persist. Temperatures in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and eastern Rajasthan continue to remain significantly below normal levels.
Delhi Weather: Clouds, Light Fog, and Cold Winds:
The IMD forecasts a partly cloudy sky over Delhi on December 6.
