The agriculture sector of the state is witnessing rapid progress. According to Agriculture Director Dr. Pankaj Kumar Tripathi, the average productivity of major crops increased by 8.7% between 2001-02 and 2016-17. However, from 2016-17 to 2024-25, this growth surged to an outstanding 42.8%. This remarkable jump is a clear reflection of agricultural reforms, technological advancement, and improved management practices in Uttar Pradesh.

Government Policies Transformed the Agricultural Landscape:

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s policies have given a new direction to agricultural development. With better access to Minimum Support Price (MSP), farmers have been selling higher quantities of paddy, wheat, and millets at government procurement centers. As a result of the government’s initiatives and farmers’ commitment, the state continues to solidify its leading position in national food grain production.

Significant Progress in Paddy Procurement:

According to the Agriculture Department, 5,73,633 farmers have registered for the paddy procurement season of 2025-26. Procurement is underway through 4,227 purchasing centers across the state. So far, 9.02 lakh metric tons of paddy have already been purchased from 1,51,077 farmers.

Timely MSP Payments Strengthen Farmers’ Income:

The Yogi government has ensured timely payment to farmers under MSP procurement. This not only boosted farmers’ income but also increased the agriculture sector’s contribution to national production. Uttar Pradesh continues to lead the country in the productivity of major crops including wheat and rice.

Boost Through Millet Promotion and Seed Distribution:

Dr. Tripathi added that in the 2025-26 Kharif and Rabi seasons, the state distributed more certified seeds compared to previous years. Under the Millet Revival Programme, the government is actively promoting millets and distributing millet mini-kits to farmers. Additionally, a wide range of modern agricultural equipment is being provided under various schemes to further enhance productivity.
