In a significant move for farmers, the government of Uttar Pradesh has commenced wheat procurement across all 75 districts at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). The procurement season will run from March 30 to June 15, ensuring a structured and timely buying process. Even before the official start, over 224,000 farmers had already registered to sell their produce.
To facilitate a smooth procurement process, the state has set up 3,574 procurement centres so far, with a target of 6,500 centres. The MSP for wheat this season has been fixed at ₹2,585 per quintal, marking an increase of ₹160 compared to last year.
According to Agriculture Director Dr. Pankaj Kumar Tripathi, procurement operations will be carried out by eight agencies, including the Food and Civil Supplies Department. Under the directions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, all procurement centres are being equipped with essential facilities such as shade, drinking water, and seating arrangements. These centres will remain open daily from 9 AM to 6 PM.
The state government has significantly increased the wheat procurement target to 5 million metric tonnes, up from the earlier 3 million metric tonnes. To ensure transparency and eliminate middlemen, the entire system has been digitized. Farmers will receive payments directly into their bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system within 48 hours of sale.
Additional Financial Support:
Farmers will also receive an extra ₹20 per quintal to cover costs related to loading, cleaning, and sorting of wheat. This additional support aims to reduce the financial burden on farmers and improve their net returns.
Easy Registration Process:
Farmers who have not yet registered can do so easily through the official portal fcs.up.gov.in or via the UP Kisan Mitra mobile app. Registration or renewal is mandatory to sell wheat under the MSP system. In case of any issues, farmers can reach out to the toll-free helpline 18001800150 for assistance.
