Weather conditions in Uttar Pradesh have taken a dramatic turn, with several parts of the state experiencing continuous heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for Thursday, August 14, and forecasts indicate that several districts may witness intense showers on August 15 as well.
In the wake of relentless downpours, all government and private schools in the state capital, Lucknow, have been closed today for Classes 1 to 12. Northern districts remain on orange alert, while over 20 districts are currently grappling with floods. Authorities have warned that river levels may rise further due to persistent rainfall.
Since late Wednesday night, heavy rain in Lucknow has led to widespread waterlogging. Areas outside Civil Hospital’s Park Road and near Charbagh Railway Station are submerged, causing major disruption to daily commuting. The situation has highlighted shortcomings in the municipal drainage system, as several neighborhoods remain inundated.
The impact of the weather system is also being felt in Delhi-NCR. Rain has been pouring since Thursday morning, with thick cloud cover turning day into near darkness in many parts. The IMD has issued a red alert for the entire Delhi region, except for North Delhi. Noida and Ghaziabad are witnessing heavy showers, resulting in water accumulation on several major roads.
Authorities Advise Caution: With more rainfall expected over the next 48 hours, officials have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel. Emergency teams are on standby in both Uttar Pradesh and Delhi-NCR to address flood-related situations.
